Has it ever dawned on your mind, what you say to others, even when you are silent? You will continue to send a message about your thoughts and feelings, to those people around you. Unless you are an expert in disguise, the message will be delivered with or without words. Research shows that only 7% percent of the messages we convey in words. 93% is non-verbal language. The next 55% of communication is based on what is seen and 38% were expressed through tone of voice. Think about it. In business, people can see what is unspeakable. You’re wasting your time, if your body language does not match the words.
In this case, eye contact is the most obvious form of communication. You show your interests, when you look at other people. But you will make others feel unimportant, when you are ignoring eye contact with them. Make eye contact about 60% percent of the overall communication, to make others feel valued. But do not be too agesif.
Facial expression is a form of nonverbal communication. A smile sends a positive message in all atmosphere, except in situations of life and death. A smile adds familiarity and confidence. And other people will be more open if we express of positive expression.Lip movements, such as pursing your lips or turning them to one side, showing that you think about what you hear or that you are hiding something. The position of the head also tells us something.
Keep your head to remain upright, not to straighten the head. This position will make you look more confident and authoritative. People will give respect on you. To appear friendly and open, tilt your head to one side. Crossed or folded arms would make other people feel neglected. The position of the arms also convey a message, whether you are open or not.
This position is also as if to say that we do not agree with other people. The person in front of you will get the wrong message, except when you are being cold at the same time you also shivering. Your self-image also can be helped or damaged by the wave of the wrong hands. For some people this movement shows the enthusiasm, but for some others, this movement say that you are immature and uncertain. To appear confident and relaxed, the best arm position is beside you. But to be better in everything, do what you usually do, practice. After a while, your body language will look natural. The movement of your body will show it to others, what you are thinking. Leaning in, suggests that you are involved and want to know more. Leaning away, you imply that you had had enough. Nodded your head also means that you’re listening to a conversation. You remember, when your grandmother reminded of how important maintaining posture. If you sit slumped in a chair, or leaning against the wall, you will look tired. When you sit or stand up straight, you impress a vigilant and enthusiastic.
People always want to do business with a energetic. In the business world, especially when you deal with people of different cultures, your hands should be visible. it means that you are not allowed to put your hands under a desk or behind your back. Control where your hands are. Unprofessional impression will be seen, when your hands around the neck, busy with your hair, or wiping your face.
Legs also convey a message.
A lot of movement indicates that you are nervous. How do you cross, and put the legs also send messages to other people. The preferred position is to put the foot flat on the floor or crossed at the ankle. Resting position of the foot or ankle on your other knee is the most professional positions, and offensive. Some people call it “Figure Four.” This can make you look uppity. Keep your distance from others is important if you want to establish a good relationship. Standing too close or “in someone’s face” will impress you a coercive. Positioning yourself too far will make you look arrogant. Keep your distance so that you and people you talk to, feel comfortable. Most importantly, do what makes others feel comfortable. If the person with whom you talk away from you, stop. Maybe that person needs space or you who need a mint.
You may not realize what your body is saying, but others will get the message. Make sure this is what you intend to send.
